Oklahoma Beef for Oklahoma Kids

Oklahoma has a program that provides grants for public schools to partner with local producers for home grown beef, pork, and chicken as well as vegetables and other minimally processed foods.

The Oklahoma Local Foods for Schools Program required schools to obtain bids for the 2025-26 school year. I've been fortunate enough to be able to provide bids for several school systems in western Oklahoma. Just imagine... beef born and raised here, processed in a nearby processing plant, delivered to feed kids who may or may not get to eat much meat at home. It is an absolute honor to be able to provide healthy ground beef for these kids!

One 30 month old steer produces around 250 pounds of ground beef plus another 150 pounds of steaks and roasts. Young bulls -- about 4 years old-- will produce around 550 pounds of ground beef. Older cows will produce maybe 400 pounds. But, I fully believe that it is better for my old cows to go to feeding Oklahoma kids instead of going through the stress of an auction house and a feed yard.

I delivered my first 300 pounds recently. I'm not making much beyond breaking even, but I will always be for giving the best opportunities to the next generation of leaders.

My grandparents shared with the families of all their brothers and sisters who needed it in the Great Depression. My parents gave of their time and their (limited) funds to those they were in

need. This is my way of paying it forward.
