Rifle season starts for deer tomorrow. Cue "it's the most wonderful time of year..." for many. I don't care for deer meat usually, but I do enjoy sitting in the stand with Sweets and watching the wildlife.
Hunting may seem like a tough topic to some. But, it serves a purpose. Hunting helps with both population control and potential genetic issues in the population. One cannot kill every deer they see. There are wildlife game rules enforced for every law abiding hunter. Those that choose to hunt illegally are not our kind of people.
Many hunt to feed their families or the families of others. While many are looking for that perfect trophy mount, the meat goes to those in need if the hunter doesn't use it for their own families through "Hunters for Hunger."
Not all hunters are there to shoot a deer either. Instead, they are there to watch and observe the animals. They are fascinating, particularly during this time of year-- mating season.
So, be careful on the roads because deer being chased or doing the chasing are not paying attention to you or anyone else.
