I got us kicked off a train traveling from Switzerland to Italy. It was an honest mistake-- I didn't realize that I'd reserved a connection for an hour later (so rushing was unnecessary!) So, we had to wait at the first stop in Italy. Let's just say that the change in cultures was ABRUPT!
On to Turin. It isn't nearly as touristy as the more well-known towns, but it has incredible history. It was actually the first capital of Kingdom of Italy and the Royal Palace is both incredible and not overly crowded.
We spent the majority of a day at the Royal Palace of the Savoy family, in particular in the RoyalArmory which has been a museum longer than Oklahoma has been a state. It is full of battle clothed mannequins and horses which were carved from wood and covered in horse hide. Then, we made our way to the cathedral connected to the palace and the home of the Shroud of Turin.
The connection between the two is absolutely magnificent! Sweets was in absolute awe of the construction. Picture crews from multiple areas of the country coming together to build a perfectly round rotunda. They may or may not speak to one another, but the architect is relying on them to build a massive dome!
